Provenance Of

Privacy

Provenance Of keeps as little about you as it can and has no accounts. This page says what it does keep and how to have it removed.

What is kept

When you name a favorite, the site makes a list for you and stores, under a private address: the books and films you named, how you rated what was suggested, and when the list was last opened. A cookie in your browser remembers which list is yours, so you come back to it. It is used for nothing else.

If you ask for your list by email, your email address is stored with the list so the message can be sent. It is not used for anything else, shown to anyone, sold, or added to a mailing list. You are sent one email per request.

What we find out about the works themselves (what influenced a book or a film) is kept and shared: the next person to name the same favorite sees the same findings. Nothing about who asked is attached to them.

Who else is involved

The titles you type are sent to Anthropic's Claude to be identified and traced. Email is delivered by Postmark, which receives your address and the message and records whether it arrived and whether links in it were followed. Cover images come from Open Library and film posters from Wikipedia; they are fetched by the site and served from here, so neither sees your visit.

Links to Amazon are affiliate links: Amazon knows you arrived from Provenance Of, and as an Amazon Associate the site earns from qualifying purchases. What you do on Amazon is between you and Amazon. The site has no advertising or analytics trackers of its own.

How long, and how to remove it

A list with no email address that has not been opened for ninety days is deleted. To stop email, use the link at the foot of any message from us. To have a list and its email address deleted now, write to hello@provenanceof.com from that address, or with the list's private link.
